Dental hygiene and oral care

Prioritising dental hygiene and oral care

Your dental hygiene is our priority

At each check-up visit, we complete an assessment to ensure your gum health needs are being cared for and addressed. We provide:

  • Professional cleaning, scaling and polishing.
  • Diagnosis and treatment of advanced gum disease.
  • Options to manage sensitive teeth.
  • Demonstration of the best ways to prevent gum disease yourself.

For those who need it, our Oral Health Therapists and Dental Hygienists diagnose and treat advanced gum disease. If you have sensitive teeth we can provide a range of options to ease discomfort.

Diagnosis and care for gum disease

At your Dental Embassy routine examination, we look for gum disease.

Gingivitis

Gingivitis is a very common condition, with around 75% of people over the age of 35 having had some form in the past.

The most common cause is the buildup of plaque along the gum line, which causes gum inflammation.

Proper brushing, flossing, and the right mouthwash can help to prevent this plaque accumulation from occurring.

Periodontitis

This occurs if the buildup of plaque is not removed. After a while, it may turn into tartar, which traps bacteria in the gums, which can then initiate a more advanced form of gum disease.

Periodontitis causes your jawbone to slowly dissolve and your teeth may then become mobile because of this lack of bone support. Sadly, the effects of periodontitis are irreversible, and an appropriate course of action will be determined with your dentist. Like gingivitis, periodontitis can be prevented with proper brushing and flossing.

Treatments for bad breath

Bad breath is a common problem, and there can be many causes. Persistent bad breath is usually caused by the bacteria that coat your teeth and gums. Foods like garlic and onions can cause problems, as can smoking. Correct and regular brushing is very important to keep your breath smelling fresh.

Treating tooth decay

Tooth decay may or may not cause discomfort; however even though it doesn’t hurt, the tooth is deteriorating. With regular appointments with your dentist, it’s easier to detect decay at an early stage to prevent excessive tooth damage. When cavities are small, they are easier and less expensive to treat.
